Enrollment Process

Tour & Parent Observation:

Latin ClassA School tour and parent observation is the first step toward enrollment. Touring New Mexico Academy of International Studies provides parents the opportunity to view our facilities and to observe our classrooms and teachers in real-time teaching situations. Families will be able to discuss our School’s mission, curriculum and philosophy during this visit. To schedule your tour and observation please contact the Office.

If following the tour, parent(s) wish to have their child(ren) considered for admission at New Mexico Academy of International Studies, an official application form with a non-refundable $50 application fee should be submitted for each child.
The date an application is received is your official “application date” used for administrative purposes. Please answer all questions on the application form as fully as possible and arrange with your child’s current school to send official school records. Once the completed application and fee are received, we will confirm its receipt, notify you of the availability of openings in the classroom and arrange for each child to visit the school if openings exist. If there are no openings, we will place your child on the waiting list for future consideration as openings occur.

Waiting Lists:

An application received after a class has reached maximum enrollment will result in the child’s name being placed on a waiting list unless otherwise requested. When an opening arises, the parent(s) will be notified by telephone in the order in which the application was received in our office. Families have three days to accept or decline to move forward with the admission process. If we are not contacted by the family within this time frame, we will offer the opening to the next family on the waiting list. The child’s name will remain on the waiting list until he or she is enrolled, the parent(s) request that the child’s name be removed, or an enrollment offer is refused.

Parent Interview:

Following the child’s visit, we will schedule a formal interview with the parent(s). This is a parent-teacher conference to discuss curriculum, child responsibilities, parent responsibilities, and any special needs. Your child’s unique talents, special interests and learning styles will be discussed.
This step is part of the enrollment application process and does not guarantee admission.
An admission decision will be made following the Parent Interview and you will be notified within one week of your interview.

Child Visitation:

Art classWhen an opening exists, we will schedule a visitation for your child. The visit provides the opportunity for the child to be observed and to become acquainted with NMAIS by walking our halls, spending time with peers, meeting our faculty and getting an introduction to daily School routines.
