Curricula

Students with microscopeWe design our curricula integrating what is known about how children learn and how the mind processes information. We make practical and effective use of theories from such experts as Stipick, Kohn, Gardner, Piaget, Erickson, Bronffenbrenner, Skinner, Montessori, Steiner, Bronowsky, Carter and Vygotsky, and John Goodlad. We strive to adhere to the academic standards set by the International Baccalaureate.

Through individualized learning, we inspire academic excellence, and cultivate compassionate decision makers with a creative response to living.

We believe that individualized learning is one of the foundations of academic excellence. Class sizes at Santa Fe International Elementary School are limited to 15 students. All academic disciplines are taught individually to each child’s level of achievement and understanding. Our classes are arranged in multi-age groupings. This enables a child to continue to progress in those areas in which he/she excels while continuing to work without stigma in those areas which are more difficult for him/her. Although there is an established curriculum framework which is consistent with age appropriate classroom and assessment standards, the order in which this curriculum is pursued is often child-specific and therefore Emergent.

CalligraphySanta Fe International Elementary also offers cultural immersion studies which are uniquely our own. Throughout each year we engage in rotating programs of extended study which explore individual world cultures, and cultural traditions. Through these sections of in-depth cultural study we seek to partner with and understand the various cultural elements with people in our own local community as well as the world at large.
